Bharatpur, in central Nepal, lies on the banks of the Narayani River and is the headquarter of Chitwan District. The Chitwan National Park boasts of some of the rarest flora and fauna in Asia.
The Royal Bengal Tiger, One-horned Rhinocerous, Elephants, Crocodiles, Deer and several other species make Chitwan (in Bharatpur) the third largest tourist destination in Nepal after Kathmandu and Pokhara. The Bees-hazari Taal (Twenty Thousand Lakes) in the south corner of Bharatpur is an important transit point in the path of migrating birds from Siberia.
Besides jungle safaris, visits or stay-overs in the indigenous tribal villages, tribal dance shows and a host of other Jungle activities, Chitwan is ideal for bird watching.
A visit is also recommended to the Crocodile and Gharial breeding centre. A trip to Chitwan is sure to leave you with a better understanding and appreciation of the diversity of life
